Attention: All Digital Filmmaking Students

As in this week (Week 3), you are officially stepping into Pre-Production phrase of your major film project.

Before your lecture class in Week 4, you MUST have your proposal approved by either Dray or Patrick or you are falling behind. You do not have much time, so it's wise to get your brilliant brain spinning now.

Whoever gets a green light for his/her proposal can go ahead to write your script. So...talk to your teacher about your movie idea in the next few day or so.

Do not expect to get green light at the first try, so don't wait until just before the class. Feel free to make appointment with your teacher via email. We are here to help.

WEEK 2: THE PRODUCTION PROCESS

Posted by dr.dray on , LABELS: | comments (1)

Sooo digital filmmakers... Week 2 we cover The Production Process, and talk about the roles in a film crew. Then we went through the really important part - The Grammar of Shots and Movement.

Then in tutorial, we start importing Video and Audio to Premiere, using the movie Baraka and mp3's of your choice.

Just a reminder that this is the last week you will be working on Premiere at the 'old' campus... And that next week we will be blissfully working with new machines at the 'new' campus! *yayyy*

Happy filming!

If you are reading this message, it means you've already successfully joined this blog.

WELCOME !!

Now you are given an important task!

Please go around your friends and remind them to join this blog before they miss something really important. As Dr. Dray and I mentioned in class, this is where you are going to allocate resources which will help greatly with your assignments & also this is where you are going to submit your assignments. (NO, we don't want you to upload onto JIVI.)

No Blog = No Submission = No Mark = EPIC FAIL = Unhappy Everyone.

So now, go on and spread the words.
We hope to see everyone on board before the end of week 2.

Cheers,
Dr. Dray + Patrick

WEEK 1: "SO YOU WANT TO BE A FILMMAKER?"

Posted by dr.dray on Saturday, November 6, 2010 , LABELS: | comments (0)

Welcome to Digital Filmmaking!

This week, we pretty much just went through the course, and each of you were given an item during your lecture. Then in tutorial you said hello to your new editing program, Adobe Premiere CS4, and worked on a picture slideshow.

Reminder- the item you got must be included in your major film, and be part of your story somehow. This is totally up to your imagination.

Also check the GOODIES box regularly to download lecture notes, assessment briefs and other useful material.

The Course Outline isn't available yet, but I will post as soon as its up.

See you guys next week!!

Film-making resources

Posted by Hellray on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 , LABELS: | comments (0)

Patrick has put together a really useful list of resources that you can use for your film-making. We've put it in the goodies box (on the right!). What's in it? Umm...loads of links for things that might be useful during your filming, during the pre-production and just for general interest =]

Why did you mark my AWESOME trailer so low!?

Posted by Hellray on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 , LABELS: , | comments (0)

OK, this first assessment is highly technical. It shows your skills at using premiere and how you put those skills to use. There's a HUGE difference between some of the files we see. Not just the final output...how they were made in the first place.
Below are two images that show this:

This image shows a trailer I marked at 55. Check out the number of sequences...in one minute of footage from the original movie, they only show THREE edits. The movie does nearly all the work. Only THREE EDITS!

I marked this next trailer at 91...the only 90 I gave.
This second example uses loads and loads of edits, with sound effects, a big range of titles, use of volume control on the music and sound layers, layering of different clips and use of opacity - in short, loads of awesome editing. The end result is also great...I'll be putting the video up in the competition for best film trailer.

Now that is why your awesome trailer could have been so so much better...
